Terms of service

The short version

You're paying a band to try to play your song. They hold the money until they play it. If they don't play it, you don't pay — the hold is released. Crowdset adds 12% on top of the band's price, and that's the only thing we take.

Crowdset is operated by Will Thompson Music, Corp ("Crowdset", "we", "us"). By using crowdset.live you agree to what's below. If you don't, don't use it.

What Crowdset is

Crowdset is software that lets a performing band take song requests and shout-outs from the room and get paid for them. We are not the performer. The band you are paying is an independent business, they set their own prices, and they decide what to play. Crowdset provides the software and the payment plumbing; the band provides the music.

"Band" here means the act. Crowdset is used by bands, solo performers and DJs alike, and everything on this page applies the same way to each of them. Where it says "band" or "plays your song", read it as whoever is performing and whatever they do with your request.

For fans

What your money buys

A paid request is a bid for a song, not a guaranteed performance. Bands play what fits the room and the night. What is guaranteed is this:

Price and fee

The band sets the price. Crowdset adds 12% on top — with a $5 minimum total — and the full amount you'll pay is shown before you confirm. The band receives their price; we receive the 12%. Nothing is deducted from the band's number.

Refunds

Because you are only charged for songs actually played, most disputes never arise. If you were charged for something that didn't happen, contact the band first — they hold the money and can refund it directly. If that doesn't resolve it, write to support@crowdset.live and we'll help sort it out. Charges are made by the band, so a refund comes from the band's account.

Behave yourself

Shout-outs and names appear on a screen in a public room, often with children present. Don't submit anything harassing, threatening, obscene, or aimed at humiliating a real person. Bands can refuse and release any request for any reason, and a refused request is never charged. We can block access to anyone who abuses this.

No account required

There is nothing to sign up for. If you clear your browser storage you lose the record of your own requests on your device — the band's copy and the payment record are unaffected.

For bands

Your account

You are responsible for your band code and for anything done with it. It works like a key: anyone who has it can run your night. Don't post it publicly. If you lose control of it, write to us and we'll reissue.

Getting paid

Payments run through Stripe, and you connect your own Stripe account. You are the merchant of record: money from your fans is charged by you, lands in your account, and pays out on Stripe's schedule to the bank account you gave them. Crowdset never holds your money. You accept Stripe's Connected Account Agreement as part of using Crowdset.

Because you're the merchant, chargebacks, refunds and disputes on your charges are yours. We'll help where we can.

Our fee

Crowdset takes 12% on top of your price, collected automatically at the time of each payment. If nobody requests anything, you owe us nothing on that. Stripe's own processing fees are separate and come out of your side, per Stripe's pricing.

There is also a subscription. Your first 30 days are free, counted from the day you claim your band name, and after that it is $19.99 per year to keep taking payments. There is no setup fee. If you don't renew, nothing is deleted and your set list is not touched — you simply stop being able to charge, and your board, your QR code and the venue screen carry on working as a free night. You can cancel at any time and it will not renew; we do not refund part-years.

Your content

Your setlist, band name and logo remain yours. You give us permission to display them on your Crowdset pages and venue screen, which is the entire point. You confirm you have the right to use any logo or image you upload.

Playing other people's songs

Performance licensing for the songs you play is between you, the venue, and the performing rights organizations. Crowdset takes requests; it does not license music and does not make you compliant.

Honest use

Don't use Crowdset to process payments unrelated to a live performance, to launder money, or to charge for things you have no intention of delivering. We can close an account that does.

Availability

We try hard to keep this up — it runs during a live show and a failure is a bad night for a working musician. But we don't promise uninterrupted service, and we're not liable for a show that goes sideways because the internet in a bar went down.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Crowdset is provided "as is", and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the fees we collected from you in the three months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing here limits liability for fraud or anything else that cannot be limited by law.

Ending it

You can stop using Crowdset at any time. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we'll tell you why. Money already earned is still yours and still pays out.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use Crowdset after a change means you accept it.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, and any dispute belongs in the courts of Bay County, Florida.
